A growing business needed to build and manage a data analytics team capable of turning increasing volumes of business data into meaningful insight and better decision making.
The requirement went beyond finding technically capable data analysts. The business needed people who could understand the commercial question behind the data, communicate effectively with Western stakeholders, challenge assumptions and confidently contribute their own thinking.
At the same time, building an entire team through an increasingly competitive domestic talent market presented challenges around skills availability, scalability and cost. The question became this: where could we find the combination of technical, analytical and cultural capabilities required to build a high performing data analytics team?
Finding the skills behind the brief
GoFusion approached the requirement through a skills first lens. Technical capability was essential, but it represented only part of the talent profile.
- Data and analytical capability
- People comfortable working with data, analytics, reporting and the technologies required to transform information into insight.
- Commercial understanding
- The ability to understand what stakeholders were trying to achieve, rather than simply producing data or reports.
- Critical thinking
- People prepared to question assumptions, investigate results and challenge thinking when the data suggested a different answer.
- Communication
- The ability to explain findings clearly and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across different functions and locations.
- Cultural alignment
- Professionals comfortable working with Western organisations, communication styles and expectations.
- Team capability
- Individuals who could work collectively as an analytics function rather than operating as separate technical resources.
Why Bosnia and Herzegovina?
The question we did not ask: Where can this role be delivered for less?
The question we asked instead: What does this business need its people to be capable of?
Our understanding of the global talent landscape pointed towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the decision was not based simply on accessing a lower cost labour market.
Bosnia and Herzegovina offered access to an increasingly digitally capable talent pool, supported by education and skills development in technology, mathematics, engineering and related disciplines.
Just as importantly, we identified professionals who could operate effectively within the client's working culture. For a data analytics function, that mattered. The client did not need a team that would receive instructions and produce reports. They needed people prepared to ask why, challenge assumptions and use data to contribute to better business decisions.
What we did
Through GoFusion's Global Talent Ecosystem, the organisation built and managed a data analytics team in Bosnia and Herzegovina, aligned to its business requirements.
Rather than providing disconnected offshore resources, the objective was to create a genuine extension of the client's capability. The team could work collaboratively with Western stakeholders, understand business requirements, analyse information and provide insight, while developing the knowledge and relationships required to become increasingly valuable to the organisation over time.
The model also provided the flexibility to develop the team as requirements evolved, creating a more scalable route to building analytics capability.
The outcome
The organisation gained access to a new pool of data and digital talent, and the ability to build a dedicated analytics capability around its business needs.
The value was not simply additional capacity or a different cost base. It was access to people who could understand, analyse, communicate and challenge.
A high performing analytics team should not simply tell a business what the numbers are. It should help the business understand what the numbers mean, and what it should do next.
Access skills globally. Align them locally. Develop capability for the future.
Global talent is about more than technical skills. Every talent market has different strengths, created by its education system, digital readiness, industries, culture and exposure to international business.
We do not start by asking where a role can be delivered for less. We start by asking what a business needs its people to be capable of, and where in the world those capabilities can be found.
Every transformation starts with a conversation.
Whether your focus is shaping strategy, accelerating growth, adopting automation and AI with confidence, or accessing global talent, a short conversation is usually enough to identify the right path forward. No pitch deck, no obligation.
