The challenge

Sector
UK legal and conveyancing
Talent market
Sri Lanka

A business operating within the highly competitive UK legal market needed to increase its conveyancing capability to support continued growth. Accessing the right skills was becoming increasingly difficult.

Demand for experienced conveyancing talent, skills shortages and increasing UK employment costs were creating pressure on the organisation's ability to scale while remaining competitive. Competing for the same limited pool of UK talent was not necessarily the answer.

The challenge was this: how could the business increase access to the right conveyancing skills and support growth without compromising on capability or quality?

Finding the skills behind the brief

GoFusion approached the requirement through a skills first lens.

Rather than beginning with geography, or asking where work could be delivered more cheaply, we looked at the capabilities the client needed and then considered where those skills could be found.

Legal knowledge
A foundation and understanding relevant to working within a UK legal environment.
Conveyancing capability
The ability to support property transactions, documentation and established conveyancing processes.
Process and detail orientation
Accuracy, organisation and the ability to work effectively within structured legal procedures.
Communication skills
The confidence to collaborate with UK based colleagues and support a high quality client experience.
Commercial understanding
Recognising the importance of responsiveness, service and efficiency within a competitive UK legal market.

Why Sri Lanka?

The question we did not ask: Where can we find cheaper people?

The question we asked instead: Where in the world can we find the skills this business needs to grow?

Our search led to Sri Lanka, and the decision was not simply driven by the relative cost of talent.

Sri Lanka has an established legal profession and a legal and educational heritage influenced by common law principles, alongside a long history of providing professional services internationally.

For GoFusion, understanding these characteristics of a talent market is critical. It meant we could look beyond geography and identify individuals in Sri Lanka whose education, experience, legal knowledge and transferable skills could align with the requirements of a UK conveyancing operation.

What we did

Through GoFusion's Global Talent Ecosystem, the client could access conveyancing talent in Sri Lanka to complement its UK capability. This provided an additional talent pool from which to build capacity, support existing teams and create a more scalable approach to growth.

Global talent was not positioned as a replacement for UK expertise. It created an opportunity to combine UK capability with carefully selected international skills, allowing work and responsibilities to be structured around the right experience and expertise.

The outcome

By looking beyond the traditional UK talent market, the business created a new route to the skills required to support growth.

The model also provided the potential to address several commercial challenges at once: skills availability, capacity, scalability and the increasing cost of competing for scarce talent in the UK. The real value came from knowing where to look, and what to look for.

Do not start with location. Start with the skills you need. Then find where in the world those skills exist.

Global talent is not just about cost. It is about knowing where skills exist.

Different countries develop different concentrations of talent through their education systems, professional sectors, legal and commercial heritage, international exposure and established industries. Understanding those talent ecosystems allows GoFusion to connect business requirements with locations where the relevant skills can be identified, assessed and accessed.
